The Putney Society is the amenity society for Putney and Roehampton, founded in 1959. It is concerned with aspects of the community which contribute to the quality of our local life (built environment, open spaces, transport and community services). Four panels monitor/respond to local civic issues. There are regular meetings, social and heritage events (e.g. blue plaques), and a monthly bulletin. The Society, run by volunteers, is independent of political or commercial influence.

Volunteers pay weekly visits to low-income families to read stories to children in their homes/ on their doorsteps, and bring a choice of books to lend for the week.
We also act to befriend parents/ carers, offering a listening ear and signposting suitable local services where appropriate.
